Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the impact of glutamine supplementation on weight, height, mean arm circumference, triceps skin fold in people with Cerebral Palsy. Methods: Case-control study where the effect of Glutamine supplementation on body composition is analyzed in a sample of 20 beneficiaries of "Hogares de la Caridad A.C." with a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy, using the WHO development tables for said diagnosis. Results: It is observed that glutamine supplementation caused significant changes in Mean Arm Circumference with an average baseline decrease of -1.2 in the group without glutamine and an increase of 0.13 in the group with glutamine in patients under 17 years of age. In the group over 18 years of age, a similar decrease of -1.12 was shown in those without glutamine versus 3.30 in those with glutamine (p <0.24). Conclusion: An improvement was found in the Mean Arm Circumference in patients with glutamine at a dose of 2.5 g / day for three months orally, compared to patients who were not supplemented. The rest of variables such as weight, height, BMI and PCT did not show changes.
